The story of Mission Roots Cafe began after its founders had attended the Regional Canada 150 and Me Youth Forum on the Environment in the spring of 2017 and had returned from the trip inspired to raise awareness about environmental issues in their own school.
In summary, Mission Roots is a sustainably conscious, not-for-profit cafe at Okanagan Mission Secondary School in Kelowna, British Columbia. The two main goals for the cafe are to raise maximum profits for the charitable organizations they are supporting, and to bring awareness to conscious consumption, eco friendly actions, and social justice within OKM. Founded solely by students, this startup is run by a diverse team of like-minded peer volunteers throughout the school.
