The proposed Youth Leadership Forums project will offer youth from across Canada the opportunity to lead and be part of an intensive ‘youth teaching youth’ experience, and will provide educational, leadership development, and work experience opportunities to three different levels of youth participants.
First, youth aged 21-30 will be selected as Youth Leaders who will help plan and execute the activities, and as chaperones and mentors for the participants throughout the event. The second tier will be the youth participants themselves – youth aged 15-19 selected from across Canada – who will be the main beneficiaries of the project. The week-long leadership forum will offer youth mentorship, hands-on volunteer experiences, along with the opportunity to work together to creatively present ideas and solutions for personal action to a third group of elementary school-aged children from the local community who come to watch their final presentations at a half-day Forum.
Currently in development, the first in a planned series of leadership forums is scheduled to launch in the 2018-19 school year exploring issues of diversity and inclusion. The week-long event is proposed to be held in Surrey, BC in July 2019.
